The next three expansions for World of Warcraft were announced today at BlizzCon, starting with The War Within, the first installment of the Worldsoul saga.

We got the first epic trailer, in which Anduin and Thrall discuss the next storyline that Blizzard developers are preparing for us. From what we see and hear, we’ll be traveling to Azeroth to find out what damage Sargeras did by piercing Azeroth.

The War Within expansion features

We will begin our journey in Khaz Algar, home to the Earthlings (an allied race) and the expansion’s entry point.

From there, we will travel underground to the Harbinger of the Void through four new zones. The main four zones are: Isle of Dorn, The Ringing Deeps, Hallowfall, Azj-Kahet and eight new dungeons for us to explore. Palace of Nerubar is the main raid of the expansion, based on the Nerubian race and their units.

The main story narrative should also revolve around the damage Sargeras has done to Azeroth and how he has changed the balance of power atop and beneath Azeroth.

Blizzard developers emphasize that they want to make WoW more “evergreen” and add new features to it that will remain in the new expansions. To this end, they are making a number of changes to the talent system, flying, and PvE play with multiple characters.

Delves, Warbands, and Hero Talents

Here some additional updates:

  • Delves is a new outdoor treasure hunting experience with 13 new instances that can be played alone or with friends to earn seasonal loot and a weekly treasure chest.
  • Warbands are designed to finally link all of your characters and achievements on your Battle.net account. This feature will help you optimize and equip multiple alts and share their content. In addition, all reputations will be shared across all characters.
  • Hero Talents is a new evergreen feature that adds depth to character creation and talent recruitment. Each class will receive three hero talents in addition to the two main specializations, similar to the talent tree in Legion.
